R. Garry Chaffin and Linda F. Burnsed initially formed the law firm, Chaffin & Burnsed, PLLC in 1989. Garry entered the private practice of law after a successful career in public service and the banking industry, and Linda entered into private practice immediately following completion of law school. In 1994, Garry and Linda merged their growing practice with the late Stanley M. Chernau, a prominent Nashville trial attorney and a dear friend and colleague, to form Chernau, Chaffin & Burnsed, PLLC. Following the passing of Mr. Chernau in 2010, the firm again became known as Chaffin & Burnsed, PLLC.
Throughout the firm's history, it has continually maintained a civil practice, representing a broad range of business and individual clients in state and federal trial and appellate courts in the following areas of the law: general commercial litigation; banking; contracts; real estate litigation and transactional work; creditors' rights in bankruptcy; construction and contractor litigation; and, intellectual properties law, including trademark infringement litigation and copyright law. The firm has also acted as local counsel in numerous securities fraud class-action/derivative action matters. A primary focus of the firm has always been the representation of financial institutions of all sizes in all aspects of operations, including lending matters, litigation defense, and as counsel in "special assets" and work-out solutions.
